New job

I’m enamoured with my new job.

So far it’s been the right mix of work: a little database work, a little API work, a little template/front-end work. I’ve only met a couple of my cow-orkers face to face, the rest I know only by their voice on conference calls or their writing in our jabber conferences.

So far so good. I’m still trying to set some new patterns in my daily life so that I don’t have to think so much. I don’t mind spontaneity in the least, but constant spontaneity wears me out! I get worn out by either a) the constant thinking required or b) because I’m already tired from thinking I do the default (work) without taking any breaks.

So here’s what I’ve figured out so far: working from home full time with kids in the house means you need to have a lunchtime break consisting of playing a video game with a 5 year-old. You also have to go back to your old place of work every week or two to play some ping pong and foosball.

Taking a hike toward the end of the day is good too. I meet Danny once a week for lunch at Bailey’s.

So things are shaping up that way. What isn’t shaping up at all is my actual work space:

Scott's office

The problems:

So we’re looking for a new house too. Lots of good deals out there right now; we’re hoping to get one of them.
