The Work of a CriticFri, 04 Jan 2008Transcription of Anton Ego's ending monologue (from Pixar's Ratatouille) In many ways the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet
enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves
to our judgement. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to
write and to read.
But the bitter truth we critics must face is that in the grand scheme ... Stevey's Blog Rants: Code's Worst EnemyFri, 28 Dec 2007Excerpt from a recent blog post from Steve Yegge: <http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2007/12/codes-worst-enemy.html> I happen to hold a hard-won minority opinion about code bases. ... Giving up (maybe for reals this time)Tue, 25 Sep 2007I don't think I'll post more on this subject. I feel that I've got a long-term solution that works for me--I have beat spam and it takes less than 10 seconds per day to do it (about the time it takes for me to save the handful of spams in my 'spam' folder). When last I wrote, my spammer friends had tried 215 times (thats 215 half-hour long connections or 107.5 hours) to alert me to a "hot stock" or some other important message. Since then, they've gradually declined again: ... Welcome back!Wed, 19 Sep 2007I want to give a hearty "welcome back!" to my spammers.
