Jones Dinner Roll Soda

Take some seltzer and add a hint of buttery something-or-other and you've got Jones' Dinner Roll Soda. I was able to easily drink half of a bottle last weekend and only toward the end of the glass did I begin to make the association between what I was drinking and the flavor I was tasting. Then I stopped.

I have not yet tried the Pea soda from the 2006 Jones Holiday Pack, but plan to this Friday. I'm eager to try the Antacid flavored soda, but not so much for the Sweet Potato soda.

Jones Brussels Sprout Soda

It's been nearly a year since I sampled this Brussels sprout soda and the effects of it are still with me. In one word: remarkable. In two words: simply disgusting.

None of my brothers nor their wives could stomach more than maybe a quarter ounce of the pale green fizz. Sickly sweet and brussely-sprouty, this beverage was by far the least palatable of the 2005 batch. Great for parties.

Sorry, but this isn't root beer. It's vanilla cream soda witha a root beer label.

If I were rating vanilla cream sodas, I'd give Tommyknocker an 8 (it's an excellent drink--very smooth). It's got a bit of butterscotch or maple in it.

Moab Brewery Root Beer

I bought a couple of Growlers (half-gallon bottles) of the stuff, thinking I'd be getting something special. Well, I guess at roughly $2.50 a pint that's a special (high) price for an average root beer.

Nothing notable in the flavor, though it was perfectly adequate to drink. Root beer fresh off the tap was a better drinking experience than, say, chugging a 2-liter, however.

Americana Root Beer

I don't often do this, in fact, this is the only 10 I've ever given on a root beer afaik. This is a beautifully blended drink; it has real sassafras and a smooth vanilla undertone. I've never had a more well-designed and perfectly flavored root beer.

I'd like to try this side-by-side with Sprecher's some time.

This was the best of the lot from my good friend Rus Berrett.

This really is a tasty root beer. It has a unique flavor, probably the yucca listed on the label. I don't quite know what to compare it to, but I could drink this frequently.

3 words: "too much wintergreen".

This beverage is hardly subtle, and I'm not sure what it's really trying to give me here, other than a strong dose of wintergreen.

Don't get me wrong; wintergreen is one of my favorite flavors, but it's overused in too many root beers and here we find it becoming virtually the only flavor in the birch beer. Could it be that "birch" root tastes horrible and must be completely masked to make it ...
