Good job Canon

Mon, 12 Sep 2005

My Canon ZR-60 DV camera went on the blink some months ago. I did a little research and the symptoms I was having were identical to a broken CCD (the "eye" of the camera), which turns out to be a common problem with this model.

I shipped it out to Canon with this letter:

Canon Factory Service
15955 Alton Parkway
Irvine, CA 92618

Please assess repair on the included digital videocamera model ZR-60,
serial number xxxxxxxxxxxx. Contact me via email at <xxxx@xxxx.xxx>
with your assessment.

The picture while recording is black in both the viewfinder and the
LCD screen. Picture during playback works correctly. I've read that it
might be the CCD.

On June 2, I received a notice confirming receipt of the camera. A few days later I got this email:

Shortly after that, I got the camera back in perfect working order. How refreshing to see a big company like Canon stand behind its product. I know not everyone's experience is as good as mine, but I'm a happy customer.
